Dr. Nourredine Slimani appointed as Director of the Higher School of Desert Agriculture in El Oued
On June 18, 2022, the President of the Regional Conference of Universities in the East, Professor Dr. El Hadi Latrach, supervised the installation of Dr. Nourredine Slimani as Director of the Higher School of Desert Agriculture in El Oued.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the meeting hall of the central administration of the University of Martyr Hamou Lakhdar, in the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Regional Conference of Eastern Communities, Mr. Marzouk Bouchaar, the University Director, Mr. Omar Farhati, the University Vice-Directors, Mr. Bashir Manai and Mr. Boubaker Mansour, the Deans of the Faculties, the Sub-Director of Users, and a number of pedagogical and administrative staff.
During the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Regional Conference of Universities in the East stressed in his speech that the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research attaches utmost importance to desert agriculture in its extension related to local, national and international food security and that it is a priority within the framework of sustainable development emphasized by the decisions of UNESCO and the United Nations International Organization. He pointed out the importance of the Wadi Souf region in agriculture and the role played by the Higher School of Desert Agriculture in this field, not only as a university training institution for graduating agricultural engineers and experts in the field and providing higher degrees in the specialty, but also as a facility for farmers and agricultural research and helping farmers and agricultural associations in solving the agricultural problems that require the intervention of specialized scientific research.
For his part, the University President, Professor Omar Farhati, considered that the birth of the Higher School of Desert Agriculture and the appointment of a competent director for it is a university, state and regional event as well, in terms of the fact that this school covers the desert and neighboring states in providing training, expertise and specialized agricultural scientific research aimed at developing and improving desert agriculture. He added that the material and financial capabilities have been provided by the University of Martyr Hamou Lakhdar to ensure the start of the school's work starting from the next academic year in very good conditions, stressing that there are important opportunities available for the school and its new cadres to invest in the field of smart agriculture based on advanced technology, which has become a necessity for developing and improving the agricultural field, including the inclusion of drones invented by the University of El Oued to overcome the difficulties encountered in agricultural activity.
As for the new director of the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture, Dr. Nourredine Slimani, who is the owner of the school project, he thanked the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the President of the Regional Conference of Universities in the East, as well as the Director of the University of El Oued, for the trust they have placed in him to manage this new university facility, pledging to work and ensure that it is up to the ambitions and program outlined for the school in order to achieve its goals in accordance with the training policy and strategy drawn up by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
On this occasion, the official delegation inspected the various facilities of the Higher School of Desert Agriculture located at the university pole in the Martyrs' District in the city of El Oued, and also inspected part of the university's open doors for the benefit of new baccalaureate holders, extending from July 17 to 20, 2022.
