Launching of the International Doctoral Forum on the Artificial Intelligence Revolution at the University of El Oued
Today, December 11, 2023, the International Doctoral Forum on “The Artificial Intelligence Revolution - Challenges and Prospects” was launched at the University of Martyr Hamou Lakhdar - El Oued - under the supervision of the General Directorate of Scientific Research and in coordination and cooperation with the research centers CRTI - CDTA - CRSTRA. The opening ceremony of the three-day forum was held in the Grand Lecture Hall Abu Al-Qasim Saadallah in the presence of the President of the Regional Symposium of Eastern Universities and the Directors of the Algerian Border Universities, Souk Haras, Tebessa, Annaba and El Tarf, and the Presidents of the Tunisian Border Universities, Gabes, Sfax, Gafsa, Jendouba and Kairouan (5 + 5), the Vice-Presidents of the University, the Director of the Higher School of Agriculture and his staff, representatives of the General Directorate of Scientific Research at the Ministry, the Vice-President of the Wilaya People's Assembly, in addition to the Secretary-General of the University, Deans of Faculties, Professors and the participation of 300 doctoral students from El Oued University and several universities from inside and outside the country for all faculties, in addition to 64 professors and students from Tunisian universities.
The forum was opened by the President of the Regional Symposium of Eastern Universities, Professor Latrache Mohamed El Hadi, thanking the University Director, Professor Omar Farhati, for hosting this important scientific event and its guests from inside and outside the country, and for the importance of the dual meeting that includes training doctoral students and artificial intelligence in an atmosphere of interaction and cooperation. He referred to the in-person meeting between the Algerian-Tunisian border universities within the framework of cooperation and exchange between researchers, wishing success for this event.
The President of the University of Oued, Professor Omar Farhati, as the President of the Forum, gave a welcoming speech to the attendees from inside and outside the country, all the university family and the Ministry’s cadres, and the greetings of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Kamal Baddari, and his thanks to all contributors to this important scientific event. The Director expressed his happiness with the participation of scientific figures in various disciplines from more than ten countries. He also pointed out what distinguishes the event, which is the participation of all doctoral students in multiple disciplines and linking it to artificial intelligence, with the presentation of many and varied competitions for all doctoral students, and that the forum contributes to the distinguished training product and the university’s visibility. He also expressed his happiness with the distinguished in-person meeting of the Algerian-Tunisian border universities (5 + 5) within the framework of cooperation, joint work and exchange of experiences. He also congratulated the President of the University of Sfax on the classification of the University of Sfax in the Shanghai classifications, and the Director of the University of Setif, President of the Regional Symposium of Eastern Universities, Professor Latrach El Hadi, on the university’s classification in the THE global classifications, wishing success and success for this scientific and research event.
For his part, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum, Professor Boubaker Mansour, gave a presentation on the importance of the forum in enhancing student training, pointing out that the forum in its new second edition consists of eight forums according to the number of university faculties to give the opportunity to all doctoral students in all specializations to participate, thanking all contributors to the organization of the forum from scientific and organizational committees, wishing success for this event.
The President of the National Symposium of Tunisian University Presidents, President of the University of Sfax, Professor Abdel Wahid, delivered a speech in which he expressed his happiness to be present at this scientific event, thanking the Director of the University of El Oued for the warm welcome and the distinguished activity of the university. He referred to the fraternal relations and ties between the two countries, where he stressed the importance of student participation in all university activities. He wished success to the doctoral forum.
The opening session featured two presentations, the first by Dr. Elias Boukrami from Regent's University in London, which addressed the topic of economic transformations, the digital revolution, risks, challenges and possible opportunities for Algeria. Dr. Wahbi Abdeljalil from the University of Tours in France also presented a presentation that touched on the reality of exploring the limits of artificial intelligence in terms of innovations, applications and considerations.
The event’s programs include many scientific segments, including training workshops, the “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” competition, the “Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Programming Competition,” the “University Innovation Challenge Competition,” and an exhibition of economic and scientific institutions, where the attendees, along with the university president, had the opportunity to learn about the products, innovations, and distinguished scientific creativity of our students.
