World linguist Noam Chomsky as a guest at Wadi University
Yesterday evening, Wednesday, February 22, 2023, the University of Martyr Hamou Lakhdar in El Oued hosted the global linguistic and communication theorist, Professor Noam Chomsky, who gave a speech via Zoom technology from the city of Arizona in the United States of America.
Chomsky accepted the invitation of the English Department of the Faculty of Arts and Languages; it was the first invitation accepted to present a paper for an Algerian university within the framework of the two-day international conference on the use of English for special purposes.
Chomsky's speech, entitled "The Study of Language and the Many Ambiguities That Surround It", was attended by the University President, Professor Omar Farhati, the Dean of the College, Professor Dalal Washan, members of the scientific and organizing committees of the conference, professors of the English Department, professors participating in the scientific event, in addition to students and those interested in research and developments in Chomsky's linguistic theory. Chomsky greeted them on the occasion and thanked the university for the scientific hosting. The valuable speech was followed by posing a number of pivotal questions to Chomsky, who answered them in detail and at length.
