On October 8, 2023, the Faculty of Arts and Languages at Shahid Hama University received 8 female students, 3 male students and a supervising professor from the Arabic Language Department at the University of World Languages in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which teaches 22 world languages and is linked to Al Wadi University by a twinning and partnership agreement in the field of mobility, student exchanges, pedagogy and scientific research.
The Uzbek student delegation was received at the airport and the university residence by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Professor Dalal Washan, her Deputy for Postgraduate Studies, Professor Youssef Al-Ayeb, her Deputy for Studies, Dr. Nasser Dahda, the Head of the Arabic Language Department, Dr. Yassin Misbahi, as well as the Director of University Services, Mr. Jamal Quraisha, Abdul Rahman Baaji, the Director of the Female Residence, Saleh Hada, and Saif Al-Din Hamtin, the Director of the Male Residence, Belhadi Abdelkader.
The University Services Directorate also organized a dinner in honor of the guests, which brought together the administrative and pedagogical staff of the University Services of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, where the Dean of the Faculty and the Director of Services delivered welcoming speeches to the guest students.
Last weekend, the University Director, Professor Omar Farhati, held a coordination meeting with the concerned parties dedicated to organizing the process of receiving and accommodating the guest Uzbek students and reviewing the pedagogical program prepared to teach them the Arabic language and its literature.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages gave a comprehensive summary of the conditions for receiving and training Uzbek students in the faculty, the program allocated for their education, and the quality of professors assigned to the teaching process. She explained that the pedagogical program invested in several Arab and foreign experiences in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers and adapted them to the program and previous acquired experiences, especially since the faculty had previously received Uzbek and Malaysian students for the same purpose.
The Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, Dr. Misbahi Yassin, also made a speech about the most important criteria that the Uzbek students will study, which are based mainly, as he said, on teaching them the pronunciation and reading of the Arabic language, teaching them its grammar, and some sciences of the Qur’an and Arabic literature, including poetry and prose, including teaching them the science of prosody related to the meters and weights of poetry. The Head of the Department also confirmed that the selection of an elite group of competent professors and a group of distinguished female and male students in the Arabic language will enable them to interact with the guest students in order to enable them to obtain a high level in the Arabic language and be able to communicate in it.
For his part, the Director of University Services, Mr. Jamal Quraisha, confirmed that his staff had gained qualitative experience through their previous dealings with foreign students, adding that the university guests would have male and female escorts from the university services who would ensure that their needs were met and that all conditions of comfort were provided. The university director also suggested outlining an additional activity program for them, which would include organizing cultural and recreational activities and field visits to the most important tourist and cultural landmarks in the region.
It is noteworthy that Al Wadi University recently received an offer from the University of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation to send a number of its students to learn the Arabic language within the framework of the twinning agreement concluded between the two universities, which makes Al Wadi University a destination for teaching Arabic to foreign students, given the experience of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature of the Faculty of Arts and Languages in the field of teaching foreigners the Arabic language.
