Oran 2 University wins first place in the national competition for future lawyers organized by El Oued University
The University of Martyr Hamou Lakhdar in El Oued is witnessing these two days, December 19-20, 2022, the competitions of the national university competition “Lawyer of the Future”, which is organized in the Grand Lecture Hall of Abu Al-Qasim Saadallah by the Sub-Directorate of Scientific, Cultural and Sports Activities of the University.
The national competition was opened this morning in the presence of local authorities, led by the Governor of El Oued, the President of the Wilaya People's Council, various security and judicial bodies, civil society, judicial union bodies, and large crowds of students who filled the hall.
Announcing the launch of the competition and welcoming the guests, the University Director, Professor Omar Farhati, explained that the idea of the competition began as a local university competition from the Faculty of Law and Political Science and was organized by the Sub-Directorate of Activities, and then became a national competition after the approval of the Directorate of Student Life at the Ministry.
According to him, the competition aims to highlight talents in the field of judicial pleadings and shed light on the importance of justice, freedoms, human rights, the constitution, and legal articles, which makes the university student live and obtain in advance a close-up picture of the reality of trials and pleadings through his practice of virtual pleadings on a sensitive and dangerous topic that affects the student community.
The University Director pointed out that 112 students from various universities across the country were nominated for the competition. The jury then selected six students from six universities whose presentations met the required conditions. The University Director wished success to the competition organizers and competitors. He also thanked the local, civil and judicial authorities, headed by the governor of the state, for their distinguished presence to participate in the atmosphere of this national competition.
The arbitration committee consisted of Professors Mohamed Saghir Dahb as chairman and Farouk Khalaf as member, both from the University of El Oued, Masirdi Abdelhak from the University of Tlemcen, and Khadiji Ahmed and Zargoun Nour Eddine from the University of Ouargla. The virtual trial session consisted of the chairman of the session, two advisors, the public prosecutor, the clerk, and six lawyers who pleaded for six defendants in the case of promoting and trading in drugs and psychotropic substances in the university environment. The virtual trial stages recorded in the criminal court witnessed the defendants appearing before the court, the prosecution’s statements and its request for severe and life sentences, then listening to the defense’s arguments, and finally deliberation and issuance of judicial rulings that ranged from life imprisonment for the main defendant, imprisonment between 12 and 2 years for two of them, and acquittal for two others.
Following the evaluation process, the head of the jury announced the list of the top three winning students in the “Future Lawyer” competition, noting that second place was shared by two students from El Oued University and Ghardaia University. This is the ranking of the winners in the competition:

On this occasion, the winning students were honored with valuable prizes and gifts to encourage them to continue their academic journey and to look forward to the legal profession, for which they participated in the trial experience competition in this virtual trial.
