Participation of the University Directorate of El Oued in the National University Radio Broadcasting Competition in Khenchela
On December 12, 2023, the University of El Oued hosted the Third In-Person Meeting of Algerian-Tunisian Border Universities, part of the 5+5 Cooperation Agreement between the two nations. This significant event brought together university leaders and representatives from both Algeria and Tunisia to strengthen cross-border collaboration in education, research, and innovation.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Omar Ferahati, Rector of the University of El Oued and Coordinator of Algerian Universities. Participants included leaders from the universities of Souk Ahras, Tebessa, Annaba, and El Tarf, as well as their Tunisian counterparts from Gabes, Gafsa, Jendouba, Kairouan, and Sfax. Also present was Professor Habib Gadda, a member of the National Committee for International Twinning Agreements and Director of the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture.

Symposium on Speech Therapy and Educational Approaches for Individuals benefiting from Cochlear Implants
As part of commemorating the World Date Palm Plantation Day on February 25, today, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of El Oued, Dr. Amar Ghraïssa, presided over the opening of the scientific Symposium titled “Educational Approaches for Individuals benefiting from Cochlear Implants.” The event was organized in collaboration with the Amal Association for the Hearing Impaired and Cochlear Implants in El Oued, and it was attended by the Head of the Psychology and Education Department, Professor Djeloul Ahmed, the President of the Hope Association, Mr. Kerrouche Abdel Nacer, the symposium’s chairperson, Dr. El Bachir Djary, the specialist Hakim Mansouri Mohammed Taher, Dr. Biazat Al-Omari from the University of Algiers 2, Dr. Tarek Salehi from the University of Ouargla, the President of the Echo of Amal Association for individuals with Cochlear Implants in Ghardaia, Mr. Makali Abdel Salam, a member of the Amal Association in El Oued, and several professors including Ghrib Abdel Nasser, Jaalab Mohamed Saleh, and Saleh Khachkhoush, as well as the director of the Psychological Support Center, Ms. Ghraib Rahma, and Mr. Kadour Abdel Salam, along with a number of students.
The Dean of the Faculty began his speech by welcoming and thanking all attendees, praising the department’s activities, and expressing gratitude to all contributors to this symposium, including associations and professors from and outside the region, aiming to provide assistance to the hearing-impaired and promote their integration. The Dean highlighted the efforts being made to include speech therapy as one of our future specializations. On his part, the President of the Amal Association in El Oued explained the association’s concept, inception, and objectives, emphasizing the organization’s preparation of training courses for specialists, speech therapists, psychologists, and teachers of hearing-impaired children, as well as training for their parents. Many professors made contributions during the symposium, opening the floor to scientific interventions and discussions, which engaged students with relevant questions.
The symposium aims to raise awareness about the importance of caring for children who are date palm farmers and to train students from the Psychology and Education Department to monitor and understand the adaptation methods for these children.

The Gonvenor of El Oued Province announces the official opening of the Medical Annex of the University of El Oued
On September 24, 2023, the Gonvenor of El Oued Province announced the official opening and start of classes at the Medical Annex of the University of El Oued during a joyous ceremony in the large lecture hall Abu Al Qasim Saad Allah.
In his important speech before announcing the official opening of the annex, the Gonvenor of the Province said that “My support for the establishment of the Medical Annex is a duty that I perform in the framework of my work, as I do in all sectors of the province.” He added, praising the great role played by the University Rector in this achievement, “I say frankly that the owner of the idea is Professor Ferahti, who presented us with the idea of the annex project, so we adopted it and supported it and those with him who worked hard to complete the Medical Annex.” The Gonvenor of the Province also noted the role of the President of the Republic in approving the annex project, considering that El Oued Province has always been a model for several achievements due to the energies and capabilities it has. It only needs to be supported and highlighted. He said that the Faculty of Medicine in El Oued will be one of the best faculties at the national level. On this occasion, the Gonvenor of the Province thanked those who supported the project, including the former Director of Health and Population and his medical and administrative team, the chairman of the People’s wilaya Assembly and his deputies, the elected officials, as well as the members of Parliament and the people of this province from individuals and associations.
The opening ceremony was attended by the local administrative, security and military authorities, headed by the Gonvenor of El Oued Province, the revolutionary family, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Batna University, which the Medical Annex is affiliated to, and the Director of the Annex, Professor Samir Darwich, the vice Rectors of the University, the Deans of the Faculties, the Secretary General of the University, the President of the Association – Al-Shifa – for Health, Humanity and Algerian-French Scientific Creativity, Dr. Yahya Abdel Momen Al-Mekki, a specialist in viruses from the University of Lyon in France, as well as a representative of the Association of Private Doctors and a representative of the Medical Alliance Association of Private Doctors and several veteran doctors in addition to the students of the annex, estimated at 155 students.
For his part, the University Rector, Professor Omar Ferahti, thanked the attendees for their response to the invitation in his welcome speech and considered that the opening of the annex is a historic event for the course of the Medical Annex project file, which initially faced several difficulties, but the efforts of everyone – as he said – eventually culminated in the realization of the Medical Annex project on the ground. The University Rector thanked the Gonvenor of the Province, the chairman of the People’s wilaya Assembly, the elected officials, members of Parliament, medical associations, private doctors and many loyal people from this province for their support.
The University Rector announced that the university system that he heads, from administration to pedagogy and logistics, has made a commitment to “make the training qualitative and distinguished in the Medical Annex, and we will provide all the necessary equipment in addition to what is available, and we will choose the most qualified professors to teach in the first years, including the contribution of professors from the Faculty of Medicine at Batna University and from medical associations and from specialist doctors from inside and outside the country.” The University Rector added, addressing the medical students, “Be confident, you will never regret studying medicine at the University of El Oued, and you will be proud of the qualitative training that you will find in your annex, which will compete with the largest medical schools across the country.”
Several speeches were delivered on the occasion by the Director of the Annex, Professor Samir Darwish, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Batna, Professor Ben Abbas Munsef, the Representative of the Director of Health and Population, the President of the Association of Private Doctors and the President of the Medical Alliance Association. A video presentation was also given on the new Medical Annex and the health facilities in the province, an intervention by Dr. Merigua Lamine on the history of health in El Oued Province, in addition to a historical film about the martyr fighter Malika kaid. Gonvenor of the Province, the chairman of the People’s wilaya Assembly and a number of veteran doctors and pharmacists were also honored.
