National Conference on Startups and Patents: Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Organized by the “Dirac” Scientific Club of the University of El Oued
Opening Ceremony
The first National Conference on Startups and Patents (Challenges and Opportunities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence) was inaugurated on May 8, 2023, by Professor Omar Far.hati, rector of the University of El Oued , in the Aboulkassem Saad Allah Auditorium.
This scientific student event is organized over two days by the University’s Sub-rectorate of Activities, in coordination with the Faculty of Technological Sciences, and implemented by the “Dirac” Scientific Club, which is affiliated with the same directorate.
The event was attended by Dr. Tawfik Mezhouz, member of the National Coordinating Committee for Monitoring Innovation and University Entrepreneurship, as well as the Vice-Rectors, Deans of Faculties, the Sub-rector of Activities, and many students, in addition to members of the “Dirac” Club.
Objectives of the Conference
According to Mr. Bachir Zidane, Sub-rector of Activities, the aim of this event is to put scientific knowledge and the expertise of professors within the reach of students through the creation of the “Dirac” Scientific Club, which is supervised by students and professors. He added that such events organized by the club aim to simplify scientific knowledge for students who want to develop their talents, encourage their innovations, and motivate them to create their own startups and patents through entrepreneurship and the university incubator.
Opening Speech
In his opening speech, the University’s Rector called on students to join the ranks of scientific creativity and invention and to create startups and patents. The University of El Oued has already registered about 130 patents, which makes it the first university in the country, and this number is expected to increase even further in the future. The rector of the university addressed the students saying: “We are striving to create a student who believes in creativity and invention, especially at the level of the three faculties: technology, exact sciences, and nature and life. We have also registered more than 150 startup topics with the business incubator.” He pointed out that the registration of startups and patents also concerns students from the Faculties of Human and Social Sciences, Literature, and Islamic Sciences.
The Director also reminded the audience of the various scientific achievements that have placed the University of El Oued in first place nationally on more than one occasion, and that it is the first university in the country to have awarded the “5-Star Student” certificate to its outstanding students.
Presentations
Speeches were also given on the occasion by Dr. Ali Chamsa, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Dr. Mohamed Said Ferhat, Supervisor of the Club, and Mohamed Jamal Eddine Tlili, President of the Club, who introduced the club, its objectives, and its program.
During the morning of the first day, a presentation was given by Dr. Said Ghandir on creative thinking, and two presentations by Dr. Tawfik Mezhouz from the University of Oum El Bouaghi on how to prepare a prototype for a patent and how to prepare and file a patent application.
The program for the second day includes four presentations:
- “How to register on the (zstart up.d) platform to obtain the innovative project label” by Dr. Hamza Daoudi.
- “Startups between the founding options and the contributions of partners” by Professor Mofid Abdel Latif.
- “Artificial intelligence in the modernization of startups” (remotely) by Dr. Sofiane Zaidi.
- “Principles of developing applications and electronic platforms in the framework of startups” by Dr. Laouid Abdelkader.
The event also witnessed the honoring of the members of the “Dirac” Club on its first day. The second day will conclude with the recommendations of the conference and the signing of two memoranda of understanding between the club and the business incubator and the entrepreneurship house.
