University of El Oued Welcomes Students from Uzbekistan to Learn Arabic

On Monday, May 1, 2023, the University of El Oued welcomed the first group of students from Uzbekistan. The students are from the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages and are in El Oued to learn Arabic at the Faculty of Arts and Languages.

This educational and pedagogical initiative is part of a twinning agreement signed in February between the University of El Oued and the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages.

The Uzbek student delegation was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Professor Dalal Ouchen, along with the pedagogical team consisting of the Vice-Dean for Post-Graduation, Professor Youcef Laib, the Vice-Dean for Studies, Dr. Nacer Dehda, and the Director of University Services, Jamal Guerricha. The delegation was also accompanied by the Head of the Monitoring and Coordination Department, Mouldi Chouchani, the Director of the Host Residence, Abdel Rahman Beidji, and the University’s Media and Communication Team.

The Uzbek student delegation consists of three first-year undergraduate students and their supervisor, Dr. Oujil Bent Omar.

This is the first group of Uzbek foreign students to come to El Oued to learn Arabic for a specific period before the end of the current academic year. They will be followed by a second group of about 20 Uzbek students at the beginning of the next academic year. The aim of the program is to learn Arabic and integrate with the students of the Faculty of Arts and Languages in order to acquire knowledge and communicate in the Arabic language.

Upon arrival at the Saleh Hadaa residence, the delegation was welcomed with dates and milk, a gesture of hospitality. They were then shown to their rooms and introduced to the various facilities of the residence.

The students and their supervisor expressed their happiness at the warm welcome and hospitality they received. They also expressed their eagerness to get to know the other students and the university and to integrate with them in order to practice their Arabic language skills.

Throughout their stay, the student delegation will benefit from an intensive study program in Arabic for non-native speakers, supervised by experienced professors in the field at the Faculty of Arts and Languages.

In February, the University of El Oued signed a twinning agreement for cooperation in scientific research and student exchanges in the field of promoting and teaching Arabic. The agreement was signed for the University of El Oued by the Rector, Professor Omar Ferhati, and for the Uzbek University by the Chargé d’Affaires, Dr. Abdul Janov Ali Sher.
