The faculty and administrative personnel of El Oued University conducted a virtual meeting, led by the Minister
On Sunday, April 23, 2023, the administrative and educational personnel of the University of El Oued conducted a virtual meeting via Zoom under the leadership of Professor Omar Farhati, who serves as the University’s Rector. The session commenced with an address by Professor Kamal Baddari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was also graced by the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry, directors from various departments, and representatives from Eastern universities’ regional congress.
The Rector, Vice-rectors, and the director of the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture from the University of El Oued participated in a meeting where the minister presented various recommendations regarding the university’s educational and administrative aspects. These suggestions encompassed preparations for national sessions on university services, scientific research, medical sciences, and a project to modernize the university. The modernization project comprises nine workshops addressing 165 proposed queries involving all stakeholders such as professors, staff, workers along with their representatives; student organizations; and parents’ associations.
Additionally discussed during this meeting were updates on an English language teacher training program, national digitalization plan, and benefits of high-speed internet connections provided by Algérie Télécom. Furthermore, deliberations included discussions about support from The Ministry of Small and Start-up Enterprises and Knowledge Economy that aims to assist university students in obtaining startups or small business certificates with guaranteed funding for approved projects.
The minister emphasized the need to delay second semester exams until after 14 weeks of in-person instruction. Additionally, he underscored that university activities should align with the institution’s primary objectives of education and economic development.
Furthermore, the minister insisted that entry of individuals from abroad must be authorized by the Ministry’s Directorate of Cooperation and coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also stressed that it is essential to showcase all university activities, events, and achievements through various media channels as universities reflect society.
Moreover, the minister highlighted thematic clusters’ role in facilitating student and faculty mobility between universities, establishing sub-institutions within the university, and expanding evening programs at academic institutions. The session also covered the processes and approaches for admitting new undergraduate students to the university in the upcoming term. The suggestions put forth by the minister during the recent seminar on Thursday, April 20, 2023, were elucidated and deliberated upon as well. These recommendations centered around national initiatives aimed at modernizing higher education, introducing English language instruction from September 2023, concluding the university season, determining closure timing of campus facilities, and ensuring prompt action on priority sector projects.
