The University of El Oued and CRASC Hold Coordination Meeting on Establishing Anthropology Research Unit
On Thursday, February 9, 2023, a coordination and consultation meeting was held via video conferencing between the University of El Oued and the National Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology (CRASC), involving its various research units in Oran, Algiers, and Constantine.

From the National Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology:
- Mr. Noureddine Foudad, Deputy Director of the Center
- Mr. Mustapha Moujahedji, President of the Scientific Council
- Ms. Fatima Zohra Boulefdawi, Director of the Research Department on Socio-Anthropology of History and Memory
- Mr. Hamza Bacherri, Director of the Research Department on Cities and Regions
- Ms. Kelthoum Aghiss, Director of the Research Unit on Translation and Terminology
- Mr. Abdelkarim Hamou, Director of the Research Unit on Culture, Literature, and Communication

During the meeting, the parties discussed the mechanisms for cooperation within the framework of establishing an anthropology research unit at the University of El Oued.
This initiative stems from the recommendation of the University rector, Professor Omar Ferhati, to:
- Train PhD students
- Promote post-graduation student exchange
- Organize training seminars and conferences
- Conduct joint research projects to produce academic research and studies through the 14 research units of CRASC
The research unit also aims to:
- Preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of El Oued region in particular and Algeria in general
- Facilitate collaboration among researchers to promote heritage through scientific and academic contexts
- Enhance national and international scientific publications
- Establish a joint database between the University of El Oued and CRASC for research projects and researchers’ interests in various fields related to anthropology
- Provide scientific coherence to cultural activities, carrying the meaning and destiny of the Algerian nation’s heritage and its promotion
The meeting concluded with the approval of all the outcomes included in the terms of the agreement between the anthropology research committee at the University of El Oued and the National Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology.
