The Rector of the University of El Oued Supervises an Evaluative Meeting for the First and Second Semesters

On April 10, 2023, Professor Omar Ferhati, the Rector of the University of EL Oued, chaired a meeting to assess and review the progress of both the first and second semesters during the 2023/2022 academic year. The meeting took place in Abu Al-Qasim Saad Allah Grand Lecture Hall and was attended by faculty deans, vice-deans, the university secretary-general, and department heads.

Also present at this seven-hour long meeting were vice-Rectors who presented reports on their respective areas – such as pedagogy, external relations, third-cycle training and scientific research, development and foresight – along with Chaouki Medellel, secretary-general of the university.
In his opening address, Professor Ferhati emphasized evaluating not only pedagogical aspects but also scientific research initiatives alongside advancements in digitization. This evaluation aims towards further elevating an already commendable academic standing within comparison to other universities.

The meeting discussed the following topics:

  • An assessment of the academic performance in the first and beginning of the second semester, as well as discussions on student progress, was conducted by Vice-Director Professor Bachir Mennai.
  • The Vice-Rector for doctoral training and scientific research, Professor Boubaker Mansour, presented an overview of doctoral studies initiation including registration processes and discussions.
  • An evaluation of the SDN digitization program was shared by Vice-Rector for external relations Professor EL Habib Guedda with engineer Samir Gueddiri from the networks department.
  • Additionally,Vice-Rector for development and foresight Professor Abdel Halim Laswad gave a presentation on received investment projects’ status along with planned statistical investments.
  • A discussion regarding generalizing English language education took place under Vice-Dean Nacer Dehda’s guidance. He also covered teacher training files related to English programs.
  • The university’s ranking across THE and QS platforms, and associated challenges were addressed in a joint presentation by Professors Amar Zaabi, Zouheir Tayr, and Abdelkader Laouid.
  • Other presentations included assessments by secretary-general Chaouki Medellel on budgetary matters, human resources; services director Djamel Guerricha detailed catering, scholar accommodations,&student transportation.
  • Furthermore, director Dr. Farhat Mohamed Fouad discussed 170 registered patent projects & start-ups,  within incubator initiatives.

After the presentations, there were discussions among the participants, leading to several recommendations for the benefit of the university. The university director emphasized the importance of putting into practice the agreed-upon insights and constructive suggestions. One of the resolutions made during the meeting was to schedule May 20th as the starting date for second semester exams. Additionally, a committee was established by the university’s Rector to oversee students’ statistical status. Another decision involved connecting the COVID laboratory at the Faculty of Nature and Life with a new medical annex set to welcome medical students next semester.
