Training Workshop on LibreOffice and MX Linux Software for Administrative and Technical Staff at El Oued University
Under the direction of University Director, Professor Omar Ferhati, and in compliance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s guidelines on “banning the use of unauthorized software in university institutions,” a training workshop on LibreOffice and MX Linux software was launched under the supervision of Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Professor Boubaker Mansour. This event took place on November 7, 2023 at Abu Al-Qasim Saad Allah’s Grand Lecture Hall.
The workshop saw participation from various university figures including the Vice-Rector for Development and Foresight, the Dean of Faculty of Islamic Sciences as well as other executives and staff. Its purpose was to familiarize administrative services users with LibreOffice software while advocating its adoption as the primary software across all university computers used by these services – serving as an alternative to unlicensed Microsoft Office software. Additionally, it sought to encourage a mandatory transition to legal operating systems by activating MX Linux instead of illegal Windows systems thus enforcing against any unauthorized usage throughout campus computing resources.
The workshop covered the following topics:
- Introduction to LibreOffice and MX Linux software
- Installing and configuring LibreOffice and MX Linux software
- Using LibreOffice Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw
- Using MX Linux basic commands
- Security and maintenance of LibreOffice and MX Linux software
The workshop proved to be effective in meeting its goals. Attendees were pleased with the workshop content and the new skills they gained. The university is dedicated to furnishing its employees with essential training for utilizing authorized software, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and output of administrative and technical personnel.
