University of El Oued Ranks First Nationally with 100 Patents

The number of patents registered at the University of Martyr Hamou Laghdar has reached 100, including 20 patents registered during the months of January and February 2023, making the University of El Oued the first ranked university in the country.

This was announced today, February 6, 2023, by the Director of the University of Martyr Hamou Laghdar in El Oued, Professor Omar Farhati, during the opening of a study day on “The Mechanism of a Graduation Thesis to Obtain a University Degree – Start-up Company and Patent” in accordance with ministerial decision 1275. The event was attended by the Director General of the National Institute of Industrial Property, Abdelhafid Belmehdi, the Head of the Patent Promotion Department at the Institute, Youssef Ziane, and a large number of student inventors, researchers and university students.

The Director of the University considered that this important scientific achievement reached by the university is the result of great efforts made by the university in the field of supervision, support and backing of the technological center and the business incubator managed by Dr. Farhat Mohamed Fouad, who has done a great job in enabling student inventors to achieve their goals in scientific research. He also called on student researchers to make more efforts to achieve more successes and inventions.

According to the statement of the Director of the Business Incubator, Dr. Farhat Mohamed, the registered patents covered the scientific fields outlined by the state, namely food security, health security and energy security.

The Director General of the National Institute of Industrial Property praised the efforts made by the University of El Oued, which has reached the first national rank in patents. He also presented, along with Mr. Youssef Ziane, Head of the Patent Promotion Department at the same institute, two interventions before the audience on the legal aspects and conditions necessary to obtain a patent. This was followed by discussions and answers to the students’ questions by these two officials.

The Director of the University of Martyr Hamou Laghdar and the Director of the National Institute of Industrial Property also signed a partnership and cooperation agreement between the two institutions to support scientific research and encourage patents and industrial property.
