Eloued University launches the projects of botanical experimental and farms .
Today, on March 21, 2023, El Oued University entered a new developmental field as part of the university’s openness to its economic and social environment by inaugurating the botanical experimental and farms affiliated by the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences.|
The General- Secretary of the Eloued city, along with the rector of the university and the director of Forests’ Preservation department, inaugurated the scientific plant experimental garden located opposite the central administration of the university.
In addition, several administrative representatives of the city were attending this event from the university(Rector, vice-rectors, deans, department’s head), the General –Secretary of Eloued city, the adminstrative chief service of Eloued city, the mayor of Eloued city , the govornor secretary of the traders union, economic operators, forestry administrative representatives, professors from the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences, and stakeholders interested in the farms.

After that, the project witnessed a process of reconsideration and reinforcement with modern smart technology that allows for numerous experiments in the smart agricultural domain and contributes to achieving local self-sufficiency in seed production of various species. The integration of smart farm by using Artificial intelligence for irrigation and necessary fertilizer treatment processes.
The inaugurated of botanical experimental and farms projects is divided into three sections: the section of protected crops in greenhouses, the open-field crops section, and the nursery section with a production capacity of up to 30,000 trees annually. The smart irrigation process is based on the Waterbox Irrigation System, which is a box that ensures moisture for a considerable period for young trees. This system also includes automated control rooms for smart control of water flow rate and volume, enabling the rationalization of fertilization and water resources used for irrigation, as all developmental operations for trees are carried out through electronic programming for opening and closing water valves.
On the other hand, within the framework of expanding of botanical experimental and farms projects at El Oued University, a new similar project is expected to be launched this year to establish a significant experimental farm with an estimated financial budget of about seven billion centimes. According to the technical card of the scheduled project for this agricultural experimental farm, the project includes various agricultural fields, including smart farming with pivot irrigation, smart farming inside conditioned greenhouses, drip irrigation smart farming, hydroponic farming, fruit tree cultivation, medicinal plant cultivation, protection of endangered plants, as well as the field of improving seed and seedling production. In addition, to an environmental exhibition containing various types of plants and trees.
The university authorities stated that these agricultural fields and specialties of botanical experimental and farms projects are available to various specialized individuals within the university and all agricultural and Life and Natural Sciences institutions in the city. Enhancing the framework of educational and research reasons with the university by providing support and accompaniment to various stakeholders and local farmers to implement various agreements declared by the university within the context of the university’s contribution for development and local agricultural production, this helping its openness to the economic and social environment.
