A seminar on the figures of Sufism in Southern East region:Algeria,  and their role in cementing doctrinal and educational values at the University of El Oued.

In commemoration of the 61st anniversary of Victory Day, the University of El Oued organized on March 20, 2023, in coordination with the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, a seminar in the Department of Religious Fundamentals, collaborating with the laboratory Contributions of Algerian Scholars to Enriching Islamic Sciences, within the framework of the Research Unit Project (PRFU) on the figures of Sufism in southern Algeria and their role in cementing doctrinal and educational values – the Wadi Souf region as a model – held in Lecture Hall D.

 

Professor Rahmani Ibrahim, the Dean of the Faculty, presided over the opening of the event, attended by several professors and students of the faculty. The Dean emphasized the importance of the subject of Sufism figures in the El Oued region, highlighting their significant roles in serving Islam and the nation, including facilitating the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge, promoting virtue, preventing vice, and engaging in numerous charitable activities. He thanked the organizing and scientific committees for their efforts in organizing this event, which serves the university and the public.

 

Dr. Djamal Lachraf, the president of the seminar, delivered a speech underscoring the impact of the research on Sufism figures in southern Algeria and their role in consolidating doctrinal and educational values. Dr. Ali Khedra, the head of the Department of Religious Fundamentals, also had a speech for the seminar.

 

The scientific event covered several topics, including a general introduction to Sufism in Algeria, its emergence, spread, and the prominent figures involved. Another focus was on the “Wad Souf” (El Oued) region, introducing its significance and strategic location in the Islamic Maghreb and Africa as a whole, and its role in embracing and disseminating the doctrine of monotheism. The seminar also examined the biographies, writings, and roles of Sufism figures in the Qadiriyya, Shadhiliyya, Rahmaniyya, and Tijaniyya orders in the Wadi Souf region.
