University of El Oued Organizes the First Training Conference on the Dangers of Drugs and Addiction in the Context of Psychological Therapies
The First Training Conference on the Dangers of Drugs and Addiction in the Context of Psychological Therapies kicked off today, June 7, 2023, at the University of Martyr Hamou Lkhider, the University Center for Psychological Assistance, in coordination with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, the Laboratory of Social Development and Community Service, and the Community Service Unit in the field of Caring for Vulnerable Groups in Algerian Society. The conference is being held in the Grand Lecture Hall of Abu Qasim Saad Allah under the supervision of the University President, Professor Omar Farahati, and in the presence of the following:

- Vice-President of the University for Scientific Research, Professor Boubaker Mansour

The Vice-President for Pedagogy opened the conference on behalf of the University President. He welcomed the attendees and thanked all those who contributed to this important conference. He pointed to the phenomenon of drug addiction and the importance of addressing it through scientific and research methods, as well as through joint community cooperation, awareness campaigns, and educational programs. He wished the conference success.
The Dean of the Faculty welcomed the participants, including specialists, experts, professors, and students. He praised the efforts of Dr. Rahma Ghorab, Head of the University Center for Psychological Assistance, in organizing the conference. He stressed the importance of the university’s role in addressing the dangers of drug addiction and expressed his hope that the conference would produce recommendations that would reflect its objectives.
On behalf of the Director of the Laboratory of Social Development, Dr. Hind Ghadaifi presented a summary of the laboratory’s role and the role of the Community Service Unit in contributing to addressing the phenomenon of drug addiction and abuse, which has become a threat to the very fabric of social ties and community existence.
The Head of the University Center for Psychological Assistance welcomed everyone and explained the objectives of the important scientific and training conference, which sheds light on the phenomenon of the dangers of drugs and addiction and the methods of psychological treatment. She also highlighted the aim of developing a plan and strategy for effective programs to combat drugs and addiction at the University of El Oued’s Center for Psychological Assistance.
The First Training Conference on the Dangers of Drugs and Addiction in the Context of Psychological Therapies, which will last for two days, will discuss several axes:
- How to build a treatment protocol for cases of drug addiction and abuse.
- The effectiveness of cognitive and behavioral therapies in improving cases of drug addiction.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques for abstaining from drug use.
- Group therapy in reducing the symptoms of drug abuse and addiction.
The event also included a play presented by our students with high disabilities, which aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of drug addiction and abuse.
The conference then began its scientific sessions with presentations by professors Youssef Adwan, Omar Boursa, Slimane Jarallah, Saliha Yamina, and Omaran Lakhder.
The conference also honored several figures who contributed to and participated in it.
