17.2.2 “Cross sectoral dialogue about SDGs Initiate and participate in cross-sectoral dialogue about the SDGs, e.g. conferences involving government or NGOs”

Seminar at El Oued University on Economic Customs Systems

On October 25, 2023, the University of El Oued conducted a seminar on economic customs systems with the aim of encouraging investment. This event was arranged in collaboration with the State’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Souf and the Regional Directorate of Customs Ouargla. The launch was overseen by representatives from the customs sector, Chamber of Commerce, and Faculty of Economic Sciences. Professor Omar Ferhati, Rector at the University, emphasized the significance of this event as it translates theoretical knowledge into practical application for students to enhance their understanding regarding customs and economics.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that the Faculty has a reputation for carrying out awareness activities such as organizing exhibitions focused on banking culture in partnership with local bank agencies.

International Doctoral Conference at El Oued University

A special attendance was made by the members of the Basmat Amal Club and the subdirector of Scientific, Cultural and Sports Activities, Mr Bachir Zidane. The conference also was attended by a group of elite professors from Arab Republic of Egypt.

University of El Oued prepares for the International Multidisciplinary Conference and studies the budget of the laboratories

 

Under the guidance of the Rector of the University of El Oued, Professor Omar Ferhati, and in implementation of the content of the correspondence of the Directorate General of Scientific Research and Technological Development, the Vice-Rector of the University for Third Cycle Training and Scientific Research, Professor Boubaker Mansour, held a coordination meeting today, Monday, October 9, 2023, with the Vice-Rector of the University for External Relations, Professor  ElHabib Guedda, and the deans, the secretaries general of the faculties, and directors of the laboratories.

The meeting discussed the budget of the university laboratories and the preparation for the International Multidisciplinary Conference for PhD Students 2023 (IPPM23), which has chosen the theme “The Artificial Intelligence Revolution: Challenges, Horizons, and Ethical Aspects”, and other miscellaneous points.

Professor Boubaker Mansour, Vice-Rector of the University, gave detailed explanations of the budget of the laboratories, especially with regard to the consumption of the budget for the year 2023 and the presentation of proposals for the draft budget for the year 2024. He called on the secretaries general and directors of the laboratories to follow up, coordinate and ensure the smooth running of the process as soon as possible. He also gave a comprehensive overview of the preparations for the IPPM23 International PhD Conference.

On the occasion, Professor Habib Qaddah, Vice-Rector of the University and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, gave a comprehensive overview of the International PhD Conference, and how and how important it is for the heads of laboratories to contribute to the activities of this important conference.

The attendees also discussed several concerns raised during the meeting, where all the observations were studied and the existing challenges were addressed, in addition to studying other miscellaneous points.

University of El Oued and the High Authority for Transparency and Anti-Corruption Organize National Symposium on Transparency and Ethics in Public Life

On February 20-21, 2023, the University of El Oued, in partnership with the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention, and Combating of Corruption, will host the 21st National Symposium titled “The Role of the High Authority in Promoting Transparency and Ethics in Public Life in Light of the Constitutional Amendment and the Provisions of Law No. 22/08.”

To prepare for the event, Prof. Omar Farhati, Rector of the University of El Oued, chaired a preparatory meeting on February 12, 2023, with the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, Prof. Makki Draji, alongside the Secretary General of the University, Vice Deans, and other university officials. The meeting focused on finalizing the preparations for this significant symposium and discussing its various aspects. During the meeting, Prof. Farhati, the honorary president of the symposium, was briefed on the progress of the preparations and engaged in detailed discussions with the organizing committee, headed by Prof. Makki Draji. He highlighted the importance of this academic event and its goals, which are aimed at shedding light on the role of the High Authority for Transparency and Anti-Corruption in promoting transparency, preventing corruption, and reinforcing ethics in public life. The symposium will also showcase Algeria’s national policy and the measures being implemented to combat corruption, in line with recent constitutional amendments.

The symposium will feature prominent legal experts from the University of El Oued, as well as representatives from the High Authority for Transparency and Anti-Corruption and distinguished scholars from other national universities. This national event is an important platform for cross-sectoral dialogue between academic institutions, government authorities, and other stakeholders, focusing on promoting transparency and strengthening ethical governance, which are essential for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. By fostering collaboration on this critical issue, the University of El Oued continues to play a pivotal role in supporting national efforts to create a more transparent, accountable, and sustainable society.

The New Media Complex celebrates its eighteenth anniversary in coordination with the University of El Oued.

On February 26, 2023, the University of El Oued hosted a celebration for the New Media Complex in the El Oued region on the occasion of the eighteenth anniversary of the founding of Al-Jadid newspaper. The event was organized in coordination with the university and took place in the Abu Al-Kacem Saadallah Grand Lecture Hall.

The celebration was attended by Professor Omar Farhati, the University Rector, university staff members, students from the media department, local security officials, the General Manager of Al-Wahat newspaper, media personnel from within and outside the region, including Tunisia and Libya, as well as correspondents of the newspaper from across the country.

The University Rector welcomed the esteemed attendees and acknowledged the significant role and importance of the media, particularly the New Media Complex, which has dedicated 18 years of hard work and determination. He praised the significant achievements of the complex and highlighted this remarkable event, aiming to lead the region in the field of media and other domains.

Mr. Ahmed Rezzag Lobza, the Director of the New Media Complex, also welcomed the attendees and emphasized the establishment of the complex as the first media institution in the southern region, with efforts focused on developing the newspaper into a large media complex that includes a visual radio channel and a weekly publication covering the southwestern region, in addition to a newspaper distribution company.

The distinguished event included a presentation showcasing the long journey of the New Media Complex. In honor of the occasion, the New Media Complex recognized the University Rector, the family of the late journalist Karim Bousalem, and members of the media family from journalists, technicians, and workers, as well as some friends of the institution.
