The second international conference on innovative methods for teaching languages for specific purposes in the university environment “at the University of El Oued” has kicked off.
Today, February 21, 2023, the second international conference on “Innovative Methods for Teaching Languages for Specific Purposes in the University Environment” kicked off at the University of El-Oued. The conference is organized by the Department of English Language at the Faculty of Arts and Languages under the supervision of Professor Omar Ferhati, the university’s Rector.
The scientific event took place in the Abu El Kacem Saadallah Grand Lecture Hall, with the presence of vice-Rectors of the university, the secretary-general of the university, deans of faculties, members of the scientific organizing committee of the conference, professors from and outside the country, and students.
Professor Omar Farhati, in his capacity as the honorary president of the conference, delivered a welcoming speech, expressing gratitude to Professor Najai Mohamed Saleh, former director of Batna University, for his effective contribution to the Algerian university and the training of a generation of professors. He also emphasized the importance of this distinguished conference, which gathered a selection of professors from inside and outside the country, as well as the participation of the global figure Noam Chomsky, a pioneer in linguistics, who accepted the invitation for the first time to Algerian universities. Farhati praised the efforts of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Dr. Dalal Ouachen, and the President of the conference, Mr. Nacer Dehda, along with the organizing and scientific committees, for the success of this significant scientific event. He expressed his wish for everyone to benefit from this conference and officially declared its opening.
Dr. Dalal Ouachen, the Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of the international conference themed “Introducing Innovative Methods in Teaching Languages for Specific Purposes in the University Environment.” She stressed the growing necessity for language learning, especially English, in all universities, aligning with the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to enhance English language proficiency. She wished success for the conference, which included interventions by Dr. Belgacem Sahraoui, the Head of the English Language Department, and Mr. Nacer Dahda, the Deputy Dean in charge of studies and the president of the conference, who emphasized the significance of the international conference and its objectives.
The conference’s activities are concentrated on several axes, including:

- Designing lessons and materials for languages for specific purposes

The main objectives of this international conference, as outlined in the program, include:

- Presenting innovative methodologies for teaching and evaluating languages for specific purposes.
- Emphasizing the importance of needs analysis and material design in languages for specific purposes.

During the event, the Rector of the University was honored by the Dean of the Faculty, as well the Vice-Rector of the University, Professor Bachir Mannai by Mr. Nacer Dahda, and the Rector of the University Services was also honored.
