The Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of El Oued organized the 22nd National Conference on the Role of the Constitutional Court in Algeria in Protecting Rights and Freedoms.
The conference was inaugurated on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the University of El Oued. It was organized by the Faculty of Law and Political Science, with the contribution of the faculty. laboratories: the Laboratory of Legal Transformations and Their Impact on Algerian Legislation, the Laboratory of Public Policies and Improvement of Public Service in Algeria, and the PRFU Research Unit on Digitization of Justice and its Role in Achieving Quality Judgments in Administrative Litigation.
The opening ceremony was supervised by the rector of the University of El Oued, Professor Omar Farhati, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Mekki Deradji, and the rector of the Conference, Dr. Ahlam Harrach. It was attended by the Deputy rectors, Deans of Faculties, and distinguished national academics, including Professor Amar Boudiaf, Member of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Said Mokdem, President of the Maghreb Consultative Council, and Dr. Bouzid Lazhari, former President of the Human Rights Council, as well as many academics from various universities across the country.
The rector of the Conference, the Dean of the Faculty, and the rector of the University took turns at the podium to deliver welcoming remarks to the guests and to introduce the conference, its problems, and its importance. Professor Amar Boudiaf then gave an opening lecture on the distinction of the Constitutional Court according to the 2020 constitutional amendment. This was followed by two scientific sessions on the first day, and the work of the scientific and training workshops will resume on the following day.
The opening of the conference witnessed a valuable humanitarian gesture that was considered a token of appreciation for those who had made great scientific and pedagogical contributions to the faculty and the university. Two professors, Ismail Tawahiri and Ahmed Amari, were honored on the occasion of their retirement, and the gift presented to them was an Umrah to the holy sites. A moment of silence was also observed in memory of the late Dr. Amina Sultani, may God have mercy on her.
