La primera Tesis Doctoral Viva con enfoque Zero Paper en la Universidad de El Oued.
Today, on March 9, 2023, the first electronic doctoral dissertation viva was held at the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences at the University of El Oued. The viva was conducted by the student Ayyoub Ibtissam in the Life and Natural Sciences department. This witnesses the first doctoral viva with a zero paper approach at the University of El Oued. The dissertation was titled “A Green synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles based on Helianthemum lippii L. extract and evaluation of their biological activities.”
The event was attended by the Vice Rector for Scientific Research, Professor Boubekeur Mansour, as well as professors Medila Afriqiya, Laaouini Salah Eddine, Hamoudi Rokia, and Ben Kharra Saleh. The viva was supervised by Professor Djahra Ali Boutilelis, with the presence of faculty members from the university. The entire process of reviewing the dissertation was conducted electronically, including uploading the student’s file, assessing plagiarism, and submitting reports. After fulfilling all necessary conditions, the dissertation was sent to the examination committee members via the Progress platform.
This initiative, closely followed and supervised by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Zaater Abdelmalek, aims to reduce financial fees on students and transition towards digitalization by conducting dissertation viva with zero paper. This aligns with the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the institution’s project to digitize traditional processes and move towards electronic publishing through official university websites and dedicated social media platforms. This leap towards digitalization and the use of technology in various university activities has significantly enhanced the university’s visibility at the local, national, and international levels.
