In 2023, the University of El Oued demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development by initiating consultations for the renovation of two key facilities: the Directorate of University Services building and the Faculty of Islamic Sciences. These plans are focused on upgrading the buildings to meet higher energy efficiency standards, aligning with the university’s sustainability goals and contributing to Algeria’s broader environmental objectives.
The renovation plans incorporate:
- Energy-efficient technologies: Replacing outdated systems with modern energy-efficient alternatives, including HVAC systems, lighting, and water heating solutions.
- Enhanced insulation: Upgrading building envelopes with improved insulation to minimize heat loss and energy consumption.
- Integration of renewable energy: Exploring the installation of solar panels and other renewable energy systems as part of the retrofitting projects.
- Smart energy management: Implementing systems to monitor and optimize energy usage in real-time.
These efforts aim to significantly reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs, and contribute to carbon footprint reduction, reinforcing the University of El Oued’s role as a leader in sustainable practices.
This initiative is part of a broader university strategy to modernize campus infrastructure while adhering to international and national energy efficiency standards, including Algeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.
