Purpose:
The primary objective of this policy is to reduce the environmental footprint of the university’s operations by minimizing investments in carbon-intensive industries and promoting sustainable energy practices. This policy underscores the university’s leadership role in advancing environmental sustainability in academia and beyond.
Guidelines:
Financial Transition:
The university has already invested funds toward clean energy initiatives and other environmentally friendly ventures.Collaborations and Partnerships:
Collaborate with the Directorate of the Environment to develop sustainable practices and promote awareness of renewable energy alternatives.
Leverage partnerships with local and national entities to drive innovation in sustainable energy and waste management solutions.
Support regional initiatives aimed at reducing the reliance on carbon-intensive energy sources.
Promotion of Renewable Energy:
Invest in renewable energy solutions for university operations, including solar and wind energy projects.
Encourage research and development in clean energy technologies, leveraging the expertise of the Faculty of Technology and the Renewable Energy Research Unit at the university.
Monitoring and Reporting:
The Directorate of Development, Planning, and Orientation will oversee the implementation of the divestment policy, ensuring compliance with national regulations and international sustainability standards.
Annual reports on progress will be published to maintain transparency and accountability.
