L'interprète, Abdelkader Mehi, enseigne à la Faculté des Sciences Sociales et Humaines de l'Université d'El Oued.
Today, on March 19, 2023, the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences hosted the writer and interpreter Abdelkader Mehi for the occasion of Victory Day. He presented a valuable historical and cultural lecture titled “Colonial Projects for Occupying Algeria – A Model of the Sahara.” The event was attended by the dean of the faculty, the head of the scientific committee the poet Mustapha Sawalih, and a group of faculty members and many students.
The dean of the faculty, Dr. Ammar Graissa, welcomed the interpreter Abdelkader Mehi, who, according to him, translated more than 14 books by French authors during the colonial era. These translations reflected various aspects of life in the Sahara region and Algeria. Dr. Graissa invited the faculty members and students to benefit from the knowledge of this interpreter, whose translation projects are still valid.
In his presentation, the interpreter Abdelkader Mehi discussed the early French incursions into the eastern, western, and southern Algerian Sahara regions. He explained how French writers, many of whom were working as officers specialized in various fields, like Domas, Bélisi, Goldfraj, Lioté, Coffy Gaston, and Charles Verot. They conveyed different aspects of life in the Sahara as part of their colonial duties. He also mentioned the writer and novelist Isabelle Eberhardt, who lived in the “Wadi Souf” known by El Oued and Ain Sefra regions, and whose articles translated by Abdelkader Mehi. Also the interpreter Abdelkader Mehi, translated many other French writers.
The poet Mustapha Sawalih recited a poem in this occasion, captivating the audience, during the event a series of questions about the lecture topic was debated by faculty members and students.
The guest speaker honored by symbolic presents and participation certificte at the end of the lecture by the dean of the faculty, the head of the department, organization committee, and members from faculty .
