The university’s outreach efforts extend to marginalized groups, including displaced and refugee communities, ensuring that health and well-being remain accessible to all. By integrating student volunteering, collaborative research, and educational resources, the University of El Oued plays an active role in enhancing health outcomes and fostering a sustainable, healthier future for the region.
Drug Addiction Awareness Campaign
In alignment with directives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the National Office for University Services, a comprehensive awareness day was organized at the university residence to address the issue of drug addiction. The event, initiated under the guidance of the Director of University Services in El Oued and the Director of the University Residence, Saoudi Bashir, aimed to educate students about the risks of substance abuse and promote preventive health measures.
The awareness campaign featured contributions from the Research Team of the National Gendarmerie Group in El Oued and the Algerian Muslim Scouts, who provided in-depth presentations on combating drug addiction and its social consequences. These interventions were supported by the distribution of brochures designed to inform and empower students on the dangers of substance abuse.
The program culminated with a medical session focused on the health risks associated with drug addiction. This segment provided students with practical insights into the adverse effects of substance abuse on physical and mental health. The interactive format encouraged participation and fostered a deeper understanding among attendees.
Health Outreach Workshop on Managing Anxiety through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
On Monday, February 20, 2023, the Health, Environment, and Sustainable Development in Algeria research team, part of the Social Development and Community Service Laboratory, organized a training workshop on “Managing Anxiety through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy” in coordination with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences and the University’s Psychological Assistance Center.
Workshop Objectives and Target Audience
The workshop was specifically designed for third-year Clinical Psychology students, providing both theoretical insights and practical approaches to managing anxiety. It aimed to enhance students’ understanding of anxiety management techniques through interactive sessions and expert guidance.

Symposium sur l'orthophonie et les approches éducatives pour les personnes bénéficiant d'implants cochléaires
As part of commemorating the World Date Palm Plantation Day on February 25, today, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of El Oued, Dr. Amar Ghraïssa, presided over the opening of the scientific Symposium titled “Educational Approaches for Individuals benefiting from Cochlear Implants.” The event was organized in collaboration with the Amal Association for the Hearing Impaired and Cochlear Implants in El Oued, and it was attended by the Head of the Psychology and Education Department, Professor Djeloul Ahmed, the President of the Hope Association, Mr. Kerrouche Abdel Nacer, the symposium’s chairperson, Dr. El Bachir Djary, the specialist Hakim Mansouri Mohammed Taher, Dr. Biazat Al-Omari from the University of Algiers 2, Dr. Tarek Salehi from the University of Ouargla, the President of the Echo of Amal Association for individuals with Cochlear Implants in Ghardaia, Mr. Makali Abdel Salam, a member of the Amal Association in El Oued, and several professors including Ghrib Abdel Nasser, Jaalab Mohamed Saleh, and Saleh Khachkhoush, as well as the director of the Psychological Support Center, Ms. Ghraib Rahma, and Mr. Kadour Abdel Salam, along with a number of students.
The Dean of the Faculty began his speech by welcoming and thanking all attendees, praising the department’s activities, and expressing gratitude to all contributors to this symposium, including associations and professors from and outside the region, aiming to provide assistance to the hearing-impaired and promote their integration. The Dean highlighted the efforts being made to include speech therapy as one of our future specializations. On his part, the President of the Amal Association in El Oued explained the association’s concept, inception, and objectives, emphasizing the organization’s preparation of training courses for specialists, speech therapists, psychologists, and teachers of hearing-impaired children, as well as training for their parents. Many professors made contributions during the symposium, opening the floor to scientific interventions and discussions, which engaged students with relevant questions.

Enhancing Mental Health Support with Marital Therapy Training
On March 5, 2023, the University of El Oued’s Psychological Assistance Centre organized a comprehensive training program on Integrative Marital Therapy, led by Dr. Chouchani Saleh. This initiative highlights the university’s commitment to equipping its staff and students with advanced psychological skills to foster well-being within the community.
The training targeted:
- Practicing psychologists to enhance their clinical expertise.
- Third-year clinical psychology students to prepare them for professional practice.
With a limited participation of 30 attendees, the training spanned three days (March 5, 7, and 8), ensuring an immersive learning experience for participants.
The initiative reflects the university’s focus on mental health support by:
- Strengthening the professional capacities of psychological specialists on campus.
- Providing tailored programs to meet the diverse mental health needs of the university community.
- Promoting psychological well-being among both staff and students through evidence-based training.
